Feng Shui Fact or Fiction?

Namaste to you all, I came across this article on the ancient Chinese science called Feng Shui. Most of you would have heard about it by now, it's become very popular over the past few years in the west.

So what is Feng Shui exactly? basically Feng Shui is a system that involves a set of guidelines for creating harmony and balance in your living and working environment. There are many ways in which the Chinese masters of Feng Shui worked out how to create positive Chi(energy). From placing furniture in a certain way and place, to hanging certain ornaments in particular areas.

I had a bit to do with Feng Shui many years ago when I owned a hairdressing salon. My partner at the time got right into it, she studied all the books an even got the assistance of a Feng Shui consultant in to set up the shop and house. I'm still to this day sitting on the fence on the subject. I'm open to everything and I witnessed enough occasions where Feng Shui certainly looked to be an exact science. For example when ever a light bulb would blow in the salon, clients would decrease, at first I thought it was just a coincidence, but it happened to many times and my partner was always quick to point it out.

Then there were the poor old goldfish, what courageous little employees these guys were, the Chinese say to have a certain amount of goldfish in your house or business, because they take in any bad energy that was around and nine times out of ten the poor little buggers took it in and would die. I cant quite remember what happened when a goldfish died, I think your money stopped flowing in, so as soon as one or sometimes two died my partner would be straight on the phone in a mad panic,'as soon as you get a chance can you call into the pet shop and get some more goldfish and hurry', when I look back the pet shop owners must of loved me or they thought I was just plain hopeless at looking after goldfish. I must admit everytime one of the those tough little fish died, if I didnt get it replaced within a few days the shop would be quite, and boy did I did I get a hounding from the girls if I didnt turn up with a scaly little commando.

So why do I still have reservations on Feng Shui? even after seeing on numerous occasions that it had merit. Simply I thought alot of mind over matter had alot to do with it, especially with my partner at the time, she had an amazing strong mind and will, if she whole heartedly believed in something nine times out of ten it would happen. She had also a gift of getting others to believe in her story, so not only was there one person with full faith in Feng Shui, now there were four people.

You see at the time I also had a problem with something outside of myself having power over me. I used to say 'there's no way a piece of furniture could effect my energy or moods, my energy is vibrating higher then that, are we that weak that we are so easily effected by a certain object not placed in the right area, a fish dying, a certain colour in a certain area?'. I fully believe that what ever you whole heartedly believe in will effect you in one way or another that's for sure, but aren't we taught that nothing on the outside of us can effect us or have any power over us unless we allow it?

If we are divine sparks of god, then we are creator beings ourselves just like god so what we put out there, what we think inside of ourselves is all created by us and only us. I fully believed this statement for years, but you might have picked up lately I don't know what I believe anymore, I have been striped bare of everything I thought I knew since coming back from India and as some of my wonderful friends say that's not a bad place to be. That's a whole other topic I'd like to get into soon. Here's the article.

Mind, Body and Spirit

Well last weekend I had a chance to go to the Mind, Body and Spirit festival in Brisbane, Australia. This festival is one of the major new age festivals in the country. It's been seven years since I last went to this particular festival.

Well in my opinion(I say opinion, because I was not effected by what I experienced, if it was judgement I would have had some type of reaction) it really hasn't changed that much over all these years. The only difference I noticed was that there were allot more gadgets for different healing techniques.

I realize that technology has been huge in all areas of our lives over the past sixty years, so I guess it was only a matter of time when it made its way into the alternative healing area. There looked like there were electronic devices for everything from reflexology to clearing your chakras with light technology.

Now I'm probably not entitled to give comprehensive view of these new gizmo's because I didn't try them myself(I forget about my blog allot of the time and I should have interviewed people after they'd finished, I'll remember next time). The way I see it, it's gadgets or human touch, which ones better? or do they both have a role to play? We all know about the healing effects of human touch and how important the role of human touch plays in our lives.

So let's look at it more closely, getting a healing from a fellow human being has many positives, though there are also a couple of negatives, one negative could be, is the person we're getting the healing from clear in themselves? can we truly get a pure and clear healing from another person? The answer for me is that there are healers and practitioners out there that have very clear energy and there are plenty that aren't. How do we choose what practitioner and what healing modality is right for us? like everything, ask within, whilst meditating ask yourself 'what and who is the best healing technique and healer for me, right at this moment?' see what answer you get, if it makes your energy feel uplifted or you get clear guidance to go a head, go for it.

Another way if you cant get a clear message is ask around, find out through word of mouth who and whats good, because I tell you after going to a festival like this there are so many different healing techniques out there and more and more are coming out everyday, it certainly can be a bit over whelming. But by asking other peoples opinion we are searching for answers on the outside of ourselves, when we truly have all the answers within us. Try it and go to a healer and if it hasn't worked out, look at why you chose them and what's the lesson. 'Through our own experience we learn and that's the only way'.

Now as for the gadgets there are positives and negatives for them as well. Let's take one of the reflexology machines for example, once you buy one you've got it for life(if it holds together), you can pull it out of the cupboard anytime you like and that certainly saves you a hell of allot of money. But can they do as good a job as a human? in my opinion no. A machine might press the right points, a machine might relax us for a period of time, but there's one thing I do know is that you cant talk to a machine and get things off your chest(half of the time that's all people need in a healing) and a machine wont give you hopefully sound advice if you do have a problem.

So finding what's right for you is the key here, trying for yourself what works for you and you only is also just as important. I said to someone at the festival 'this maybe why there's so many different healing modalities, because there's so many different people and that obviously not one shoe fits all'. Being open to trying different healing modalities is a good thing as well, they all have their place in healing different parts of us.

Returning to the Goddess

I've found an article on how important it is in these times to reconize the Goddess asspect. Far to long has this world been dominated with the male energy, this world certainly needs to come into a more balanced state. I pray sooner rather then later that the tide will turn and the female energy will wash over the earth and all of us, cleansing and restoring peace and love once again on this planet.

Journey to the Heart of the Goddess
"Over 2,000 years ago, our planet experienced a "pole shift"—not a magnetic pole shift, but one which had as powerful an influence on all of life on the planet: a shift in polarity from the Yin based Goddess traditions which had ruled for almost 35,000 years, to a new Yang oriented, patriarchal ascension." wisdommagazine
