Scientists Protest Against Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama was in Washington to give a speech on meditation and neuroscience at the society for neuroscience's annual meeting. Some scientists were up in arms about having such a person at their meeting. They even went so far as to set up an online petition, others are boycotting the event or withholding their conference papers.

"The protesters complain that the Tibetan leader isn't qualified to speak about brain science. They fret that he'll draw media attention away from important findings presented at the conference. Worst of all, his presence muddles the distinction between objective inquiry and faith." wired

Tony Robbins Motivational Lie?

Well Steve Salerno author of "SHAM: How the Self-Help Movement Made America Helpless."
Certainly gives one of Americas most famous self-help guru's Tony Robbins as well as a few other inspirational guru's a negative opinion on what they have tried to achieve with their approach to getting people thinking and staying positive.
Self-helps big lie
"EVER SINCE the United States began weaning itself off the sociological junk food of victimization and its culture of blame, the pop-psychology menu increasingly has been flavored by an antithetical concept - empowerment - that can be summarized as: Believe it, achieve it." latimes

C.S. Lewis Probably Unhappy With Disney

Would C.S. Lewis been happy with the way Disney portrayed his famous book Series "The Chronicles of Narnia," Anita Torres Fish has an article in the Edmond Sun about why she thinks through her research, Lewis wouldn't have been happy with the film based on his novels.
Author probably not pleased with Disney
"Anyone who has actively researched the life of C.S. Lewis undoubtedly knows he was a multifaceted and vivid writer with strong convictions, and a specific purpose when it came to his literary works. Perhaps that explains why the series "The Chronicles of Narnia," now more than 50 years old, have never been out of print." Edmondsun

Deepak Chopra And Nuclear Bombs

Deepak Chopra gives his views on Iran and the cat- and- mouse game their playing with the rest of the world on their nuclear policies. He gives his view on how he thinks the whole issue on nuclear disarmament should occur(some would see it as controversial). I personally like his view, to have peace we all have to lead by example and that is to disarm now our own countries of nuclear weapons.
A-Bombs for Everyone...What Can We Do?
"The fact that a renegade state is going to acquire the bomb panics Europe and the U.S., who seem to pick and choose which Third World country deserves to go nuclear. India and Pakistan, yes, Iran and North Korea, no." intentblog

Turning Peace Into A Consumer Trend

Deepak Chopra and Ubiquity Brands CEO Jeff Dunn have united to bring about a new concept for world peace. Chopra has proposed marketing peace around the globe instead of war, which unfortunately a lot of the worlds governments do.
How to Repositon a Brand Called 'Peace'
"The way holistic visionary Deepak Chopra sees it, peace has long been losing the marketing battle with war. War gets major federal funding, Army recruiting ads, and a nationally televised infomercial in the State of the Union address. Peace gets local news coverage of angry mobs waving signs." newyorkmetro

Tibetans Visit Dalai Lama

China has taken a few small steps towards creating a more peaceful working relationship with the Dalai Lama, by allowing 200 Chinese nationals to attend a prayer meeting with the exiled Dalai Lama in India. China has also been issuing more visas to Tibetans and ethnic Chinese over the past couple years, allowing followers to pursue their spirituality through Buddhism in India.
China lets 200 Tibetans visit Dalai Lama
"Despite that, the majority of Tibetans loyal to the Dalai Lama, instead of Beijing, continue to be denied passports. Last November the Dalai Lama said talks with Beijing so far had done little to ease a "very repressive" atmosphere in Tibet." Telegraph

Here's a couple Dalai Lama quotes..
"Through difficult experiences, life sometimes becomes more meaningful."
Dalai Lama
"It is the enemy who can truly teach us to practice the virtues of compassion and tolerance."
Dalai Lama

Also, here's part of a prayer by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet..
Humble sentient beings, tormented by sufferings without cease, Completely suppressed by seemingly endless and terribly intense, negative deeds, May all their fears from unbearable war, famine, and disease be pacified, To freely breathe an ocean of happiness and well-being.
And particularly the pious people of the Land of Snows who, through various means, Are mercilessly destroyed by barbaric hordes on the side of darkness, Kindly let the power of your compassion arise, To quickly stem the flow of blood and tears.
