Heart of the Matter

I've written some posts before about how crucial it is for people to find their purpose in life. I believe finding one's purpose is just about the most important thing any human can experience whilst on this planet. That's why most people especially westerners that are on a spiritual path search high and low for the answer that eludes most of us and that is 'what am I here for?, what am I supposed to be doing?'.

As I've said to people throughout the past few years who have asked me these questions, 'what does your heart say?','what's the one thing that you have always wanted to do?, or the one thing you love doing that opens your heart up and sing?', 'think of a way you can incorporate what you love doing into a job where you can support yourself.' Yes and of coarse I hear all the excuses under the sun why they cannot, then I say(sorry if it sounds cold, but when you have excuses why you cannot do something you love because of outside influences your playing victim) well stop complaining and get over it.

There is a small poem that inspired me a few years ago and I guess its time to maybe read it again for myself and to share with others, its called Risk.

RISK
To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas, your dreams, before the crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try is to risk failure.

But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He or she may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he or she simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love.......live. Chained by their certitudes, they are a slave, they have forfeited freedom. Only a person who risks is truly free.

I've said for years now, you only get one shot at it this lifetime, one chance to be the most magnificent being you were born to be. Even if you believe in reincarnation and I do, the only thing you have is the now, this lifetime this moment, there has never been and will never be any other being in the universe quite like you, so stop wasting what little time you have on this earth and go out and BE the person you were born to BE.

Very true.
I'm not doing what I dislike doing, but I'm not doing everything I love doing. So I'm part way doing what I was meant to do.
I'm much happier than a slave, but I still point to those around me as the things holding me back from complete freedom.
Green Bob needs more paintbrush time and less keyboard time.
It's all good though..

Well Green Bob, in all of this balance my friend is the key, try and put aside time for the things you really love like say painting for example etc. If you have troubles in not being able to do that think of away that you can, find another space or as I said just except that at the moment somethings are more important than others, but are they really?. Its working out which one, heaps of money or doing what you love. There sometimes can be more money in doing what we love then what we think, say selling our art, being confident in pursuing our dream, only you know in your heart of hearts.

Yeah, I'll get there. I'm just letting time take care of things for now.. or procrastinating.. whichever way you look at it.

I'll be thumping away at the easle and listening to native birds sing outside the studio pretty soon!

Or I'll be doing a world tour.. who knows! lol

I still feel free though.. whatever happens.
