George Clooney's Bio

George Clooney's Biography
George Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky. His father, Nick Clooney, had many jobs in the entertainment field (perhaps not surprising as he was the brother of Rosemary Clooney, the actress and singer) such as news anchorman (or a newsreader, for those of my readers in the UK) and occasional game show host, his mother Nina had been the runner up in the Miss Kentucky beauty pageant queen and had served as a city councilwoman. He has an older sister, Adelia, and cousins who also are actors – Miguel and Rafael Ferrer.

George attended schools in Kentucky and then Ohio. In middle school, he developed Bell's palsy, a condition that paralyzed part of his face. His peers teased him ruthlessly, but the condition went away within a year.
George attended Augusta High School in Augusta, Kentucky. An excellent baseball player, he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds but was not invited to training camp. He then went to Northern Kentucky University, from 1979 to 1981, and briefly to the University of Cincinnati, majoring in History and Political Science, but he never earned a degree. He supported himself by working a variety of part-time jobs.

George started working as an actor in 1978, when he received a small role in the TV series Centennial. He continued to act in small roles in a variety of TV series until 1994, when he was cast in a leading role in the NBC drama ER. He became very popular because of this show, started acting in movies almost immediately thereafter, and left the show in 1999 to concentrate on his movie work.

He starred in such movies as From Dusk till Dawn, One Fine Day and The Peacemaker ,before being cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman & Robin, a role he did not repeat. Shortly thereafter he also started producing and directing films.

He was married once, to actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993. Since that time he has remained single but has had relationships with a number of women, mostly actresses. He has no children.

George has worked on behalf of Darfur for many years. He travelled to Darfur in 2006 with his father Nick to make a TV special "A Journey to Darfur". Released on DVD in 2008, money generated from the sale of this DVD is donated to the International Rescue Committee. He also appeared in the documentary Darfur Now, released in 2007.

George is also a member of Not On Our Watch, an organization that attempts to prevent mass atrocities. Other actors involved in this organization are Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Jerry Weintraub.

On December 13, 2007, the Novel Peace Prize Laureates presented George and Don Cheadle with the Summit Peace Award by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome. In his acceptance speech, however, George said that "Don and I…stand here before you as failures. The simple truth is that when it comes to the atrocities in Darfur…those people are not better off now than they were years ago." The work to help Darfur continues, however.

George is a Democrat, and supported Barack Obama during his run for the Presidency.
